Lincoln Monument: Washington Poem by Langston Hughes

Lincoln Monument: Washington

Rating: 3.0

Let's go see Old Abe
Sitting in the marble and the moonlight,
Sitting lonely in the marble and the moonlight,
Quiet for ten thousand centuries, old Abe.
Quiet for a million, million years.

Quiet-

And yet a voice forever
Against the
Timeless walls
Of time-
Old Abe.

And yet a voice forever Against the Timeless walls Of time- Old Abe. Yes Abraham Lincoln will remain the voice forever against all injustice. A man who said his word and left but it is still there.

Lincoln may have been carved in the marble but the great values he upheld and ideals he fought for will live for ever and cannot be petrified. So, the poem gives reason for Lincoln Museum to be there in Washington.

I visited this monument in June. The eyes and hands of it are particularly life-like and well done. -GK

Just like time and space, which have no ends, edges and corners, AL's voice too have no ends, edges and corners. They are not time bound even. Brilliantly crafted poem. Congrats on your positioning. X
