Invisible Invasion Poem by Laurie Van der Hart

Invisible Invasion

Rating: 4.9

Overnight, very discreetly
Very quietly we come to life
Nobody sees us, betrays us
We invade host after host
We multiply and multiply
Without their knowledge
So many of us!
We spill over
From person to person
They carry on, business as usual
Unknowingly allowing us
To spread
Everything they touch
Becomes covered with us
Then one by one
They become ill
They fall
Today two,
Tomorrow four,
The next day, eight,
Sixteen, thirty -two, sixty four,
One hundred twenty eight
Two hundred fifty six
Five hundred seventy two...
So many of us!
We're not stopping
They are dropping
Like flies
We jump like fleas
Over land and seas
With ease
They've lost control
We are winning
We shall inherit the earth
And then we too
Will die

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is based on Sylvia Plath's poem "Mushrooms". My real opinion is not half as gloomy as this! I was just having a bit of fun.

Laurie, Dear Friend! It's good to see you finally posting a new poem again! This is a wonderful portrayal of the way the Corona virus has changed everyone's life recently. Great work! I am going to mention it in my Puzzle Master Quiz 050, to be posted the day after tomorrow. One of my recent poems is called " Avoiding the Corona" . I think you will like it.

Thank you Laurie. Very true. It touches the current situation and mainly the helplessness of arrogant, of the insignificant.

Fungus now are eating the radiation in Ukraine. Fungus now live in our shoes. Thank you for your poetry. It speaks about life living on. even if in the end we all are dust in the wind.

Part 2: shall cease to exist. But nature will survive, though it may not be conducive for many life-forms, including human beings to live.

"We are winning/We shall inherit the earth/And then we too/will die." Very true. Whether viruses, bacteria or dinosaurs. Or even Human Beings. Those who play with the balance of life, of earth, of environment…
