If Better Off Than Before - I Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

If Better Off Than Before - I

Rating: 5.0

Better off if are we than ere were,
Why we still squirrel things in our bill?
Why our smiling face should go so rare?
Why man greeds forever the more still?
And feels no better but always ill?
Easy can a man meet every need,
Harder ‘tis to meet his growing greed,
We might now have a much better deal,
But question is: do we better feel?

Matt Ridley in his book, The Rational Optimist, sounds temptingly good. He seems to say:Greed is good. But I feel greed does not trace an inverted U curve. How much of greed is greed, and how much is need? Humanity at a future point will have to decide this.

The decline of spiritual values and growing influence of materialism in the society, in general, has white washed the boundaries between need and greed. The self centered modern man/ nations have lost sensitivities to great extent towards society, as a result. A thought provoking great write. Thanks for sharing.10 points.
