I Am A Happy Old Man Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Am A Happy Old Man

Rating: 4.5

I AM A HAPPY OLD MAN

I am a happy old man

I am free

I have done what I can do in most things
My work may not be great
but I have dedicated my life to it
and it is there

My children are grown
and have families of their own

I have family and friends I care about
who care about me

I don't have to listen to someone who tells me what to do
I do what I want when I want
In most things-

My expectations of myself
Are far less
I don't' have to be or do anything anymore
I don't have try to be respected or honored
I certainly do not have to change the world
And deal with all or in fact any of its great problems-

It's wonderful to be able to take a walk
And every small pleasure is deeply appreciated

It won't be forever
And knowing this is a kind of freedom also

I enjoy things as much as I can in my own quiet way
I try to bother no one

I am a happy old man
In my own small way
As long as it lasts.
