Hats Off To The Maids In Pune

Rating: 4.8

India's cultural capital n Oxford of the east
Are the identities acquired by the Pune city.
A hub of education and I.T. centre universal
Has now become once the Peshwa's capital.

The Y2K phenomenon boosted Pune's growth,
Pulling talent scattered in south and north.
Rural men and women too came in great demand
To serve the talent and obey their commands.

Rural women-folk absorbed as maids
Mended the households and cooked their breads.
They were enlightened by power of education
That slowly imbibed in them too ambitions.

Mothers in the maids made firm resolution
To uplift their families and their children
By imparting them best possible education
By investing their own optimum perspiration.

Such maids in Pune toil for prolonged hours.
Their struggle to improve lot of their dears
Compells every one, including strangers,
To bow before those untiring mothers.

C@ Ratnakar D. Mandlik.

I understand the plight of maids in Pune where my son had some initial training for TCS and my brother's son had worked in Tech Mahindra for more than three years. I missed the opportunity to visit Pune, the oxford of India.

One has to be without maids to understand the value of their work and service to society. Even the emotional bond that they often create with house members is remarkable. So very often I have missed that closeness here felt in each segment of Indian society.
