God Within Me Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

God Within Me

Rating: 5.0

I do not want people around me
whom I want to hate
as they dis-agree to be prudent,
I do not want people around me
who cannot love others with respect
as they have only bitterness in them;
I do not want people around me
who throw away prestige and dignity
as they have never been enlightened of it,
I do not want people around me
who do not understand their wrong evaluations
as they have failed to know their own identities;
I do not want people around me
who have evolved from poverty
and seek false pride and vanity;
I do not want people around me
who think by acquiring a novel status
they can destroy the superiority of others;
I do not want people around me
who deplore the prosperity of those
who attained it by sweat and hard work;
I do not want people around me
who bask with jealousy at other's achievements;
I do not want people around me
who are not content with their own fate
and they trouble others for their own greed;
I do not want people around me
who sell their moral to earn monies
just to become rich and competitive;
I do not want people around me
who do not realize that ancestral homes
belong to those who want to conserve it for posterity;
I do not want people around me
who want to be like hungry tigers
trying to grab the remnants of the past;
I do not want people around me
who think as they live they can spoil
the harmony of others by futile hostility;
I do not want people around me
who are children and who though educated
lack realization and perception of realities;
I do not want people around me
who are evil in their tomorrows
and wicked in their yesterdays and todays;
I do not want people around me
who lack repentance and gratitude
as I want to live by goodness and God within me
everyday, everywhere, forever more.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
People who are selfish and want to destroy others seldom win. They either bear the brunt of their own mischief or fail to prosper in peace. Finally they have to face their own Waterloo/destruction.
