Family History Poem by Mellisa Aday

Family History

Crystalized sugar in Grandma's old jelly jar
glistening on the kitchen windowsill.
Stale music, crisp air, and the faint taste of tobacco tar.

He introduced himself as a gentleman great,
said he was mesmorized by her eyes.
After all these years, pain and tears, and she's still in a blissful state.

Children they had to thier great pleasure.
Romance and passion never deficient.
And yet this blessing never passed down in great measure.

Grandchildren they love and enjoy to the fullest,
playing and teaching and laughing at sweet antics.
Yet without spouses, their children don't flourish.

A mar on such a wonderful life.
A son and a daughter
without husband, or wife.

A tradition that is widely known,
for each family has experianced very nearly the same vexation.
Accoustomed to which we all have grown.
