Extended Family Poem by Hannah Davies

Extended Family

I now have an extended family
Who already mean a lot ot me.
They took me into their home
And there is so much happiness and love shown.

L is an easy person to talk to
Who doesn't judge what I do.
She is full of good advice
And is really very nice.

She makes my Dad happy
Is nothing like my mother thankfully.
She has helped me to make a lot of sense of things
Showing me the positives the future can bring.

Nan is one to speak her mind
But to me she has been more than kind.
She won; t let anyone mess her family around
She tries to keep them all safe and sound.

She makes sure everyone is OK
And that we all get fed every day.
She may have problems with her health
But she is not one to be put up on the shelf.

B is engaged to L
And he would do anything for her.
He is very loud and bubbly
LIkes to wind up members of the family.

He likes to play fight with his sister
And play computer games with her.
He is a typical Jack the lad
Always making people laugh, he doesn't like to see them sad.

J is so sweet
Always up on her feet.
She loves dancing and ice-skating
But can't stand to be kept waiting.

She always tries her best
To fit in with the rest.
She can always make me smile
Forget about all my problems for a while.

D is L's nephew
Who would do anything if you asked him to.
He is a crazy lad
And with his football sometimes drives me mad.

We get on really well
He enjoys living here too, you can tell.
He is growing into a lovely young man
And hopes to return to South Africa when he can.

Sometimes the house can be noisy and loud
But to be part of this family it makes me proud.
I thank them so much for allowing me to stay
Now I love to wake up each day.

I love living here
And having all these people near.
This is a place where I feel I belong
To be part of a family, it's been so long.
