Dream Deferred Comments

Rating: 4.2
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--

...

Langston Hughes

I have quoted lines from this poem many times in my life. I admire it so. The play and movie titled A Raisin In The Sun are equally to be appreciated.

Mr. Hughes is a genius. Consider the times he grew up in and the audacity to include the last stanza. Wow, brilliant.

This is from a few years back and I felt, I should share it because Langston Hughes inspired me to write this. If it was'nt for him and my teacher I would of proble never wrote this thanks 'MyLifetimeDream' My deferred dream is a dream of a lifetime. It is always with me. My deferred deam is that my mom and dad will get back togather. My mom and dad were never married, but they were together for seventeen years. They had four kids, two boys and two girls. We did a lot of family things. We went to the beach togather. We went to the fair together. We always had a great time togather. Then they started fighting. All of a sudden our family just broke apart because my mom and dad split. All of us kids went with my mom. I missed my dad a lot. I loved being with my mom too. A few times they were going to get back together. It made me feel happy inside. The same fighting happened when they tried to get together. The last time they got together I just knew that they were never going to see each other again. To this day I hope that my dream will come true. It makes me feel empty. Now I know what the poem was about, that when you have a dream that doesn't come true, you feel left behind.

I realy liked this poem 'Dream' because it makes me a way for thinking and for creating a good imagination about the life. So without dream the life has no meaning and human being wouldn't do any thing without it's

Langston Hughes was very much into jazz and incorporated 'jazz tones' into many of his poems, including this 'Dream Deferred' series. Imagine these poems being played by a jazz band or scatted by a jazz singer in order to enjoy the full effect.

I had to memorize this for an English class. I'm glad about it. Langston makes giving up seem strange and I don't know, he just makes me want to never stop dreaming
