Crying For You Uncle Abie And Uncle Nate Poem by Shalom Freedman

Crying For You Uncle Abie And Uncle Nate

Crying for you Uncle Abie And Uncle Nate
We'll all be dead forever
So why this morning
Am I crying for you Uncle Abe and Uncle Nate
Each dead so many years now?
I remember the darkness the loneliness the hatred and sadness
Of your living alone together after Bubbe and Zayde died
I see you as you were then
Screaming and cursing one another

You'll have no second chance
The sun will never shine for you again
Nate Nucham of the sheepish smile
And Abie of the three sister girl-friends and their mother
Together with him on his Sunday walk

We are all bugs nuts crazy people introverts
Said Dad

Am I any different from you
And will be

Under the dark ground
Or in the wall
Of Givat Shaul
One day soon?
