A Poison Tree

Poem by William Blake

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine.
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

    This is one of my favourite poems of William Blake. Truly reflecting what malice means. The poison kills not only my foe but makes me also look ugly and imperfect with effects of dirt within. I loved the presentation in form of a tree.(Report)Reply

    William Blake, , , ohh what a fake
    No man alive today
    Would dare to write in rhyming couplets
    This I have to say! !

    How dare he couple I see the tree
    In fears my tears, smiles at my piles!
    Shine on mine, did grow my foe
    Stole my pole God bless my soul! ! !

    No Mr. Blake for heaven sake
    Your work, , , it seems to be
    As doggerel as a school boys rant
    And I'm afraid I'd have to agree!(Report)Reply
