A Mystic As Soldier Poem by Siegfried Sassoon

A Mystic As Soldier

Rating: 3.0

I lived my days apart,
Dreaming fair songs for God;
By the glory in my heart
Covered and crowned and shod.

Now God is in the strife,
And I must seek Him there,
Where death outnumbers life,
And fury smites the air.

I walk the secret way
With anger in my brain.
O music through my clay,
When will you sound again?

I'm assuming (without reading your profile description) , that you served... this poem was beautiful. I wrote Yellow Footprints in the Sand for my son who is now in his second year in the Marines. I decided to look around this site for inspiration in other's work... Trying to spark that creative side as I'm stuck on what to write for my son as he is being deployed tomorrow... I have to say to you Thank you for your service... and God bless you! ! !

for we who've fought for it, life has a meaning, the protected never know.
