A Fleeting Moment Of Family Poem by Susan Ash

A Fleeting Moment Of Family

The table is laid,
A place for me.
This is my family.
Yet being all together is
Always one too many.

We fit comfortably, like
The pieces of a puzzle,
But we no longer belong
To the same picture.
Here I am the odd one out.

All too soon I must
Leave again,
This is no longer my life.
Just an apparition
Of what should have been
But is now lost forever.

Excellent theme and words....I like the way you've described the family as a jigsaw puzzle which when together fits in all the right places and then the idea that the self is not actually 'there' but lost. Thank you for sharing this poem.
