    Poem for Langston Hughes

Thunder is seldom so soft as when his sounds are spoken.
That bird climbs on to life- to life! Its wings have never broken.

Those wings will take it to a place where crystal stairs have passed.
That barren field of frozen snow will flourish with dreams at last.

    Hold fast!
    Hold fast.!

Langston was a true poet. His poetry was a denial of everything he'd been told about himself and his people, and the truest expression of spirit that I've ever read.

Mother To Son

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now—
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Problems

2 and 2 are 4.
4 and 4 are 8.

But what would happen
If the last 4 was late?

And how would it be
If one 2 was me?

Or if the first 4 was you
Divided by 2?
