We Build ~ We Fight - For Peace With Freedom

Eyes wide shut, we are numb
Afraid of another roadside bomb.
Trembling through the stillness at night,
Riding in the truck feeling something isn't right.
Tires rolling on down an unimproved road,
Every bump is a flinch as we wait to explode.
Our hearts race and pulses quicken as we enter cities,
With pretend hardness and aggression we scan for enemies.
No one person stands out, everyone is dressed the same.
What does he look like, the one we are to blame.
I want to leave, time to go home to my family.
But I can't, not now, not until the grand finale.

Am I the only one, Is there anyone else that can see?
The only people suffering are our children in both countries.
Children of America have suffered from one parent's absence.
And I would do it all again under the same circumstance.
Our children already have the best that we have to give,
So I raised my right hand long ago so that all children may LIVE.
No matter where the little ones of this earth may be,
My goal has always been to give them opportunity.
Now I can say that I made a contribution.
The Iraqi's now have a police and a constitution.
It is time well spent away from the family and the guys,
When you see the thanks and gratitude in those children's eyes.
Schools are rebuilt and classes are now in session,
All for the little children that are truly a blessing.
Our stay was short, we've done our part and soon home we will be.
I will leave this country proud to say I served as a United States SeaBee!
