E V Wyler Poems

In the abyss, so black and bleak,
I'm swarmed with worry, worn and weak.
Peristaltic walls swallow prey:
A bolus in the bowel's bay,
...

The sleepy sea massages a creaking ship which slowly navigates
through blackness the sky emanates and the great Atlantic integrates.
A sailing school of serenading seagulls dips and dives and celebrates,
and amongst the sea-sick shipmates, a welcome murmur swiftly circulates.

To Bear Witness (Holocaust)

To bear witness … and awaken the world … he'll rise:
Helpless to halt routine horrors he's seeing,

Dear Graduates,

... Sometimes, a spring breeze softly blowing
whispers that a presence needn't be seen to be felt...
...

Through the revving roar of Rolling Thunder,
amplifying along air and asphalt,
silent complacency's cast asunder,
by the tour de force its riders exalt.
...

Where silhouetted sentinels silently stand in vain
bleeding shades of layered shame on blight-lined highways below,
their ghostly shadows remind us of dreams we dared to drain.

A Tribe of Trolls

A tribe of trolls escaped their cage!
Now rabid wrath and rancor rage.

Luckily for the bereft
grieving through darkness alone

In The Abyss

In the abyss, so black and bleak,
I'm swarmed with worry, worn and weak.
Peristaltic walls swallow prey:
A bolus in the bowel's bay,
I am Jonah, humbled and meek.

During the storm's most starkest streak,
through sustained strife, I stand and seek
God's deliverance … while I pray …
… in the abyss.

Slivers of sunlight slowly leak
past my perils, letting me peak
at a rainbow's brightest archway!
God dwells in the places we stay,
even where blessings feel oblique
... in the abyss.
